La Galería, the first Gastromercado in Fuengirola
Our understanding of gastronomy has changed in recent years. Now, we don’t just want to enjoy a good meal, but crave more, from a broader range of high-quality, fresh and healthy products with excellent presentation to, most importantly, a new environment that values all of these factors and knows how to treat its demanding new customer. Lovers of good food have set the rules to the game, and Fuengirola’s first market has arrived with these rules in mind.
La Galería, located in the heart of the city, is a new concept designed to merge food with leisure and culture in order to respond to the recent demand for a type of market space that has already seen such great results in Cordoba, Madrid and Seville. The idea for the market also keeps in mind Fuengirola’s attractiveness to tourists. Fuengirola is one of the most attractive tourist centers in the Costa del Sol, in addition to having the high rate of foreigners residing in the city, representing 30% of the total population.
The gastromercado features, on the one hand, 12 varied market stalls where fresh food such as meat or seafood, Iberian products, international cuisine, and processed products can all be found at competitive prices. It also features a brewery, a café, and a cocktail bar for enjoying the nightlife.
In addition, there will be many upcoming events including wine tastings, art exhibitions and book presentations. Thus gastronomy–for both purchase and consumption–unites with culture.
This brand new market is in a building whose architecture draws on the light characteristic of Fuengirola, offering a large space featuring tones of white, large windows and a vaulted ceiling that leads to a bright gallery and—could it be any other way?–the name of the gastromercado.
La Galería can be found in the historic and commercial center between España and Miguel de Cervantes street. It’s located in an area of 600 square meters and has the capacity for 250 people. It’s open every day from 12:00 am to midnight except Fridays and Saturdays, when it closes at 1:00 am.
One goal of this initiative is to raise awareness of consumption and product knowledge of Andalusia and advocate for a Mediterranean philosophy of life and cuisine that is undoubtedly linked to good food and entertainment.
In addition, the vendors who run the stalls as well as the companies, distributors and shops are all local and all work in the same field with the same philosophy under the supervision of a common management. The first gastromercado of the Costa del Sol has all the potential to become an alternative form of entertainment in Fuengirola and a reference in Andalusia.
